Vista Games Cracked for XP.

Date June 26, 2007

Many of us knew that Microsoft didn’t have the best security in town and its usually cracked within the first few days(i.e.Xbox 360 cracked by Persians on release day). But now, Elite hacking group Warez just launched a PATCH that can make the acclaimed ‘Vista-only’ games Shadowrun and Halo 2 run on Windows XP.

Microsoft did say that with Windows XP, the games would not run because it uses a DirectX 9 graphics engine. Meanwhile, Windows Vista uses DirectX 10 graphics engine. Since these are popular games desired across the nation, the offer to switch between the two operating systems is not much of an obstacle, but Vista is claimed to be very slow by most users and a hassle by others.

Falling Leaf Systems, a company focused on making software compatible with other hardware rather than just the one the program is intended to run on, will also make a software that will make Halo 2 and Shadowrun compatible with XP. I am pretty sure they can’t just make software that can do that legally, but in a press release, they said they wanted to do so, so that they can prove Microsoft’s claim, about it running only on Vista, false.

So the Hacking group Wares has already surpassed Falling Leaf Systems’ goal but Windows Live and in-game achievements are features still only available to Vista gamers. So the latter company still has a chance but who knows for how long?
