IBM and its Power6 processor.
May 21, 2007
IBM has finally launched its advanced Power6 processor. The company says that the power of the power6 processor is double from the power5 chip.

What’s so special about it?
IBM unveiled its Power6, a microprocessor so fast that it has the potential to download the entire musical content of Apple’s iTunes (it’s about 20TB of music), in just a little over 60 seconds. In addition, the engineers reduced the consumption of power by nearly 30%. This chip is the world’s fastest chip.
Specs of the power6 Chip
-Dual-core chip with a top clock speed of 4.7GHz, double the 2.3GHz of the Power5+ processors.
- 8MB of L2 cache – four times as large as the current Power5 offering
–Internal bandwidth of 300GB per second.
Some thoughts:
This will make IBM, a strong reputable chip producer in market, but it will have a major advantage against all the competitors in the market. Many companies who deal with large complex financial programs will benefit from this, as well as many tech companies.
