Microsoft’s new enemy:Google
June 27, 2007
Microsoft always felt superior to its former enemy, Linux, but now, the tables have turned. Microsoft barely even competes with Linux nowadays because the latter’s support is outnumbered by a myriad. So what does Microsoft do in its spare time when its not loathing Linux? It goes for its new adversary, Google. This is almost like a Cyber World War. Two super powerful ‘industrialized’ websites challenging each other. Microsoft finally has someone its own size.
To start off, Microsoft is offering 500mb of online storage to users for their videos, music, documents, etc. Nothing new, its still just a beta test for 5,000 users. This feature lets people access files without having to email back and forth if they are on the go. However, there are rumors that this ‘Live Drive’ or ‘Windows Live folders’ have been worked on for over a year.
Like I said, its nothing new, Time Warner Inc.’s AOL already offers 5 gigabytes of space through the Xdrive unit.
So how does this compare with Google?
Well, Google also offers these online features such as its Web-based word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software to compete with Microsoft’s flagship Office suite. Both of these major companies are trying all its best to give its users more and more free junk for their reputation and power. Both companies also offer email space in which the search Giant dominates with nearly 3gb of space while Microsoft offers 2gb. Maybe in the future, Microsoft too will offer something like Microsoft Word live or so. Only time will tell.
