Playstation 3 and its downfall…in price!
July 9, 2007
They told us all the time that the Playstation 3 was not going to have a price drop any time soon; but I guess thats not true anymore. Early news leaked around that the Playstation 3 will have a nice $100 price drop. Most of us were expecting this even though Ryoji Chubachi, the president of Sony, said that there were no immediate plans for such a move made it clear that it will not happen anytime soon. But, with the E3-annual major gaming event-coming up, we will know that the Playstation 3 will be $500 for the 60gb, just 20 bucks more than the Xbox 360 elite.
What more?
Well, bear in mind that the Playstation 3 already loses a lot of money on each sale of the console, but with this price drop, it makes it worse. So to make up for this, Sony will launch a 80gb version later on in future for $600 but it will also com with the popular game- Motorsport. To be honest, even though this is a voluptuous deal, the console does NOT have the best titles around. Even though the company is promising 100+ great titles, this could just prove out to be another propaganda for young kids to purchase this console.
Jack Tretton, the chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said that he expected the price cut to double sales “at a minimum”. He added: “We’ve gotten production issues behind us, reaching a position to pass on the savings to consumers.
“We’re especially proud that the PlayStation 3 has the lowest failure rate of any PlayStation product. It’s absolutely the gold standard.”
So the Nintendo Wiis and Xbox 360 are still outselling the Playstation 3, only time will tell if this price drop made a difference. Halo season is coming up…
