Save Juan Gomez from Deportation. Give him a chance.

Date July 27, 2007

Today, as I was watching the news after a few months, and got online to chat with my friends on AIM, I found out that one of my good friend, Juan Gomez, from highschool, was in the process of being deported to Columbia, due to an illegal status in the United States. However, many of my classmates are trying to save Juan Gomez from deportation: by initiating a group in Facebook, named The Dream Act: Help Bring Back Juan Gomez. The group has been a major success, having nearly 750 members in a few days. Despite of all this, many Florida senators, and Dream Act sponsoring senators are supporting Juan from deportation.

One thing I’d like to say about Juan, is that I knew Juan personally, and he was in my class, and the one thing I would like to say about him is, that he was an amazing person, who showed a positive attitude in the time of adversity and helped anyone who asked. Juan was a perfect student, who was involved socially, and academically.

Here is a full letter explaining little bit more about Juan:

” The morning of July 25 our friend Juan Gomez was picked up by Immigration Authorities and was forced to leave the country. For those of you who know Juan, he was the smartest and most dedicated kid you ever met. He deserves more than to just be deported. Many of us owe him. I know he helped everyone one way or another in school. Its the least we can do for him.

What I need all members of this group to do is write an email to local media statons stating how great of a kid Juan is, a little about yourself, and how the passage of the Dream Act will help him. Our hope is to put his situation out in the open. Hopefully this will rally support behind this bill and lead to its eventual passage.

For those of you who don’t know the Dream Act is a bill currently in legislation that would give kids like Juan a fair chance at having all the opportunities that we are given.

This is his one chance at getting back here and we need to do all we can.

Make your letter personal and make sure that it will get its point across. Think about things Juan has done for you or just how great of a kid he is.

If you don’t know Juan then just write about the dream act.
We need all the help we can get.”

SAVE JUAN GOMEZ

As many of you might have a facebook account, all I ask you to do is join this group, and try to recruit as many members as possible.

For blog owners, if you can just post something about Juan, and the link to joining the group on facebook, I would be very grateful to you. Remember, your getting the oppurtunity to help someone who really needs the help, where it can change his life. Giving him the opportunities to success.
