Social networking- Where has it taken you.
September 30, 2007
Where has social networking taken us.
As we all know, social networking on the web has become very popular, but now the main problem many young teens, and adults face is- is it really worth it? The amount of time we spent on facebook, myspace, orkut, and so on, has become out of control. We tend to be addicted once we really dissolve ourselves in such networks, because we want to see who has sent us ‘message’, ‘ wrote on our walls’, and lastly promote a blog or product for more popularity, and make new friends.
Well, I remember the days when I used to really be in it. I used to log on to myspace account just three times a day, and see if I had any messages, or any friends in the network. After a while, I realized it’s just a waste of time because you waste nearly half of your day getting yourself in such networks.

Here are some positives and negatives about such networks:
Positives:
- You get to keep in touch with your friends
- Meet new people. For example, if your attending a university, you can meet and add people from that school. As long as you are not stacking on one type of gender, nothing should be strange.
- Promote something. A blog, product, or make a group.
- Share your pictures, videos, and overall, keep in touch with your peepz.
The negatives:
- Things can get out of control. In this case, time. Once addicted, I am not sure how you can get hooked off.
- You waste too much time. You tend to check your account status whenever you logon.
- Privacy. Strangers can get your information. Some networking sites such as facebook, require others or you to add them to friends to look into other’s profile.
- Friends get ‘mad’ at you, for not replying to their message. Unusual things happen.
- Anyone can locate you on the web. All they need is your name, and your identity will be available to them.
- Small kids are getting addicted. I am not sure what they are doing. You don’t know whose profile they are going through.
